Tottenham Hotspur are pushing to sign Bayern Munich centre-forward Mathys Tel (19), according to a report this Thursday from L’Equipe. The North London club is the most insistent Premier League side interested in acquiring the France U21 international as Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea are said to closely monitor the Stade Rennais Academy graduate’s situation. Tel has decided to leave the Bundesliga giants to secure regular football at the highest level.

Tel made his feelings known last night in applauding Bayern fans at the Allianz Arena after Munich’s Champions League 3-1 win against Slovan Bratislava for what was probably his final appearance under the tutelage of head coach Vincent Kompany. Tel’s decision to leave Bayern Munich in the winter transfer window has put Premier League sides on red alert as the Frenchman represents a rare market opportunity given his age, his experience and his skillset.

L’Equipe reports that Tottenham Hotspur Technical Director Johan Lange was in Germany to exchange with Bayern Munich executives and convince Tel he should pursue his career in North London. Spurs are adamant they need to secure Tel’s signing quickly given the competition from better-placed Premier League sides. Tel has reportedly not made his decision yet.
