Marseille are working on a loan for Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri until the end of the season, with a variable fee and no option to buy, according to NY Times.
Other interest remains in the 18-year-old from the Premier League and Europe, but Arsenal will not sanction a permanent mechanism.
Roberto De Zerbi has spoken positively with Mikel Arteta and Nwaneri and Marseille are favoured. A decision is expected shortly to secure more game time.
Nwaneri debuted at 15 years and 181 days at Brentford in September 2022, becoming the Premier League’s youngest player.
He made 37 appearances last season, but competition from Eberechi Eze, Noni Madueke and a fit-again Bukayo Saka has reduced his minutes. He has no league starts in 2025-26, six cameos and 12 outings overall, scoring once.
England’s top flight leads January spending, £232million gross and £97m net, with the window closing on February 2.
Brazil’s Serie A is second by gross, surpassing £100m. MLS clubs are net spenders, while Ligue 1 and La Liga have net income and together have spent under £30m.
After signing Marc Guehi and Antoine Semenyo, Manchester City could sell Oscar Bobb if terms are right. Interest from England, Germany and Portugal, with around £30m likely needed.
Juventus have stepped away from Jean-Philippe Mateta, unwilling to meet the €40m valuation, and are considering Fenerbahce’s Youssef En-Nesyri. Palace, amid Marc Guehi’s exit and Oliver Glasner’s planned summer departure, do not want a cut-price sale.
