Pre-season has now started and the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United are expected to ramp up their transfer business significantly. The Gunners have not yet signed a player this summer other than a permanent £27million deal for loanee David Raya but are interested in Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori. Now, there are claims that a deal with the player has already been agreed.

Manchester United, meanwhile, recently backed manager Erik ten Hag with a new contract. He looks set to bring in more players this summer, with Matthijs de Ligt said to be close to joining from Bayern Munich. Another Bologna star in Joshua Zirkzee is believed to be a big target.

Chelsea have been as busy as ever this summer and are reportedly ready to seal a deal for Boca Juniors defender Aaron Anselmino, with the centre-back set to stay at his boyhood club on loan for another season. Basel’s young midfielder Renato Veiga is also joining for £11m. Liverpool are still on the trail of Anthony Gordon after Arne Slot gave his first press conference, while Manchester City could sell Ederson to Al-Nassr as West Ham prepare to sign Max Kilman. Bologna begin search for Riccardo Calafiori replacements

Bologna have identified Marin Pongracic as their ideal replacement for Riccardo Calafiori.

Lecce are keen not to sell the 26-year-old defender, who played for Croatia at Euro 2024.

Negotiations will continue, so say La Gazzetta dello Sport, with Udinese’s Slovenia star Jaka Bijol on their radar after an impressive Euros alongside Leonardo Balerdi of Marseille and Diogo Leite of Union Berlin.

Juventus, for their part, were also tracking Calafiori and are said to be ramping up their plans to sign Jakub Kiwior from Arsenal having missed out.

Arsenal see Victor Osimhen bid rejected

Victor Osimhen may have to sign for a Saudi Arabian club or stay put at Napoli after Arsenal saw a bid rejected for the Nigerian striker.

According to SportMediaset, Napoli turned down a £59m approach from the Gunners while requesting his full £109m release clause.

Neither the Gunners, nor Chelsea and Manchester United, will pay that amount.

Al Hilal are named as the most likely club to do a deal for Osimhen with Napol giving the player’s camp a few more days to find an acceptable deal in Europe.

Why Chelsea have edge in transfer battle for Nico Williams

Chelsea have the edge over any rivals for Nico Williams' signature this summer in the form of Marc Cucurella.

Athletic Club star Williams is lighting up Euro 2024 with his performances for Spain, prompting fierce transfer speculation over his future.

Williams reportedly has a release clause of between £45-50million, and most of Europe appear to be interested - including Chelsea, Tottenham and Barcelona.

But the Blues have an ace up their sleeve with Cucurella revealing he has been in his Spain team-mates' ear about moving to Stamford Bridge.

Liverpool chief predicts 'crescendo' of transfer activity

Liverpool's new sporting director Richard Hughes predicts a "crescendo" of transfer activity in August after Euro 2024 and the Copa America have finished.

However, that may not necessarily heavily involve his club as both he and new head coach Arne Slot stressed the priority was to improve the output of the existing squad handed over to them by former manager Jurgen Klopp.

"When there are major competitions during - and we have Copa, Euros and Olympics - the summer, the attention will be there," he said.

"After the flurry in June, my prediction is that it will calm down a bit in July, when August starts and coaches have had more time to work with players and opinions will be more set, you may see a situation where there is a bit of a hurry to get things done and make sure everyone's squad is in order.

"I don't think this summer will be any different. Who knows what will transpire economically, it is hard to say, that was probably the reason for June.

"I would say a quiet July and a crescendo in August awaits us all."

Chelsea target confirms Arsenal transfer interest

Nottingham Forest defender Murillo has confirmed Chelsea are interested in signing him this summer, adding that he is open to joining the Blues, Arsenal, Liverpool or Manchester City.

Murillo has not been shy about his desire to move to a bigger club, previously telling Brazilian show Os Donos Da Bola that several teams across Europe had expressed interest and it was reciprocated.

Murrillo has confirmed Chelsea’s interesting, telling Benja Me Mucho podcast: “I know there was a buzz of interest. So, I don’t know exactly how much the [asking price] amount is, but I know there was interest.

“I had the dream of playing in the Premier League and I had that thought. I thought: ‘I’ll go to Nottingham Forest, have a good year and then I’ll go to a big club’. I had that in my head.”

Murillo’s reported price tag of £50 million may prove too steep for the Blues.

Riccardo Calafiori to Arsenal transfer would be 'a disaster'

Former Bologna chief Walter Sabatini has branded Riccardo Calafiori’s potential move to Arsenal as “a disaster” for Serie A.

Arsenal have identified the Italy centre-back as a key summer transfer target as they seek a left-footed defender to significantly bolster their squad for another Premier League title charge next season.

Reports suggest they’ve even agreed personal terms.

"It’s a disaster when strong, young players like him leave our league," Sabatini told Radio Sportiva. "€45million as a valuation is a huge sum but the defenders are paid even more.

“I think it’s the minimum for someone like him: left-footed, physically imposing, authoritative and with personality in the game.

“Let’s remember what he did in the 96th minute against Croatia: he came out with the ball at his feet, ran 40 metres, took on the defence and passed the ball.

“These are plays you only do if you have quality and courage, and the courage to take risks and to execute the action is something only great players can do.”

Liverpool set out Mohamed Salah stall

Even if Mohamed Salah doesn’t sign a new contract this summer, Liverpool won’t sell him.

The Egyptian star has long been linked with a big move to Saudi Arabia, particularly with his Reds deal up in 2025.

But the Mirror report that Liverpool will focus their efforts on re-signing Salah to a new contract rather than cash in.
