Igor Tudor has decided not to take over a team midseason even if he had three opportunities to do so, as he believes to have a shot at succeeding Gian Piero Gasperini on the Atalanta bench. The Bergamaschi gaffer stated he wouldn’t renew his contract that expires in 2026. The parties will decide in the summer whether to play out its final year, Alfredo Pedullà informs.
The Croatian gaffer didn’t stay at Lazio due to divergences with the front office after replacing Maurizio Sarri for the final nine rounds. He tallied 5 victories, three draws, and one loss in Serie A play. The Biancocelesti finished 7th.
Tudor previously worked with current Atalanta director Tony D’Amico at Verona, closing the season in 9th position. He’d be the easiest to convince, even well in advance if they wished to, among those they are evaluating. The parties haven’t struck a deal yet.
The Bergamaschi are mulling over some high-profile candidates like Maurizio Sarri and Roberto Mancini as well. The former defender helmed Olympique Marseille in 2022/2023, concluding the campaign in 3rd place. He also worked at Hajduk Split twice, PAOK, Galatasaray, and Udinese throughout his career. He assisted Andrea Pirlo on the Juventus bench for a year.
It’s an easy connection given his ties with one of their main officials, and he utilizes a similar style after he inherited it from Gasperini disciple Ivan Juric at Verona. The alternatives would have more pizzazz but also lead to seismic shifts tactically and philosophically, which would be a big risk despite their appeal.
