The second home game, against Arsenal, remains on Saturday 12 September but will now kick off at 8pm, live on TNT Sports.

The first four league fixtures are now set. Sunderland visit Ipswich Town at 3pm on Saturday 22 August, before hosting Fulham on Sunday 30 August, then travel to Brentford at 3pm on Saturday 5 September.

After Arsenal’s visit on 12 September, Sunderland face Manchester City away the following week, currently scheduled for a Saturday 3pm start. The Black Cats will be in Europa League action earlier that week, with matchday 1 of the league phase on 16 or 17 September.

An extended international break follows the City game, with Brighton next at the Stadium of Light on the weekend of 10 October.
