Manchester United are reportedly set to face competition from two Premier League clubs in their chase to land Al-Hilal striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.
Having wrapped up the signings of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo from Wolverhampton Wanderers and Brentford respectively, United have turned their attention towards landing a striker.
Boosting the team’s goal output after a toothless 2024/25 season in which United finished 15th was Ruben Amorim’s main priority heading into the ongoing transfer window and now, the club have stepped up their chase for a top-class talisman.
United have missed out on the likes of Victor Osimhen, Viktor Gyokeres and Liam Delap. There are other options such as Benjamin Sesko and Ollie Watkins, but they carry hefty price tags which are certainly out of the Red Devils’ reach this summer.
United have had to be creative, hence links to cheap alternatives such as Mitrovic.
A previous report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United were considering making a move for Mitrovic, who is open to the idea of making a return to England.
It was stated that Al-Hilal could be persuaded to sanction the Serbian’s sale. Mitrovic is valued at £40m.
Mitrovic was prolific during his stint with Fulham, scoring 111 goals in 206 appearances before departing for the Saudi Pro League. This tally includes an incredible 43 goals in 44 league matches, which he managed in 2021/22 as the Cottagers earned promotion back to the top flight.
He followed that up with 14 goals in 24 Premier League games during the 2022/23 season. Since then, he has gone on to score 68 more goals in just 79 appearances, playing a key role in helping Al-Hilal secure one Saudi Cup and two Saudi Super Cups.
At 30, Mitrovic is on the wrong end of his career but it’s clear he still has plenty to offer, including Premier League experience and bags of goals.
Now, a new report has claimed that United Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle will rival United for Mitrovic.
CaughtOffside report, “Sources close to the attacker’s situation have confirmed to CaughtOffside that Mitrović is not only on the radar of Manchester United, but also Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur.”
“Newcastle are warming to the idea of bringing back their former player. The club wants to build an alternative structure around Alexander Isak, and Mitrović’s Premier League experience and physical strength fit in with those plans.”
“The Saudi Public Investment Fund, which owns Al Hilal, also owns Newcastle, which could facilitate the transfer process. Mitrović’s commitment to Newcastle is also noteworthy; he has openly expressed his love for the club in the past.”
It’s understood that Tottenham view Mitrovic as the perfect alternative to Dominic Solanke, who has yet to truly hit the ground running in North London.
CaughtOffside note that Al-Hilal value Mitrovic at €30 – a sum that may not be too prohibitive for United, Tottenham and Newcastle.
