Manchester City’s Director of Football has today held fresh transfer talks with Eintracht Frankfurt over a deal for Omar Marmoush, according to reports from Germany.

The 25-year-old is firmly the Premier League champions’ next priority in the ongoing transfer window after finalising an agreement with Lens for Uzbek centre-back Abdukodir Khusanov,, who is expected to become the first signing of the winter market.

The 20-year-old defender is currently in the process of sourcing a work permit ahead of his move to Manchester City, who have sanctioned a blockbuster transfer fee in the region of £33 million for the defender.

But officials within the Etihad Stadium are conscious about recruiting for future success and strengthening a forward line that was depleted by Julian Alvarez’s exit to Atletico Madrid last summer in a package deal worth around €90 million in total.

And as such, that has led them to a talent in German football that is widely viewed as being one of the hottest profiles in front of goal across European competition, having scored 14 goals and provided eight assists in just 16 Bundesliga outings.

That record has also meant that Eintracht Frankfurt are very hesitant to let go of a star player that is driving the club towards UEFA Champions League football for next season. Although, from his side, the versatile forward is keen on a Manchester City switch.

Now, according to the information of Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, new negotiations regarding a transfer for Omar Marmoush have taken place between Manchester City’s Txiki Begiristain and Eintracht Frankfurt on Monday.

At present, it is stated that both clubs are now ‘not far apart’ in a fee for the 25-year-old, with the Premier League champions believing that a deal can be finalised in the region of €70 million plus bonuses.

For the time being, all parties are working to complete a deal ‘promptly and fairly’, and an agreement on Tuesday ‘cannot be ruled out’, which would mean that the Egyptian forward may not be in Eintracht Frankfurt’s matchday squad against SC Freiburg on Tuesday night.

The latest information to emerge around the future of the player come just hours after the Eintracht Frankfurt manager spoke in a press conference ahead of the club’s next Bundesliga outing, insisting that Marmoush would start for the club against SC Freiburg.

Dino Toppmöller – the Frankfurt head coach – told reporters on Monday, “Omar (Marmoush) is making a good impression again today, as with all of the squad. We are pleased that he will be in the starting eleven again tomorrow.”

Pep Guardiola also remained tight-lipped on the transfer market and Manchester City’s business, insisting that while the club have not announced anything officially, he would not be commenting on ‘agreed deals’ or other lines of reporting in the media.
