United States Men's national team star midfielder Tyler Adams has put his opinion on record regarding discussions surrounding promotion-relegation for MLS.
And the 26-year-old would love to see it.
When sitting down with USA Today, Adams, a product of the NY Red Bulls academy before successful stints with RB Leipzig and Leeds United before securing a move to Bournemouth, cited competitiveness as the driving force behind the necessity of reshaping the MLS landscape.
"I would like to see [promotion and relegation] in MLS, in the U.S. I think that would add to the competitive nature of the league," Adams said.
"It just gives everyone a lot more to play for when you know there's a risk of going down when you don't play well, so it adds a little bit more pressure, adds a little bit more nerves and excitement for the fans as well."
"So hopefully one day it's in MLS."
Discussions surrounding promotion-relegation are sure to continue after the USL has taken its first steps in implementing it across its tiered system, with the intent of becoming a direct competitor to MLS moving forward.
