Real Madrid’s concerns about the condition of the turf at Kairat Almaty’s stadium have been rejected by UEFA ahead of their Matchday 2 clash in the European Cup group stage, according to Defensa Central.

Los Blancos had formally requested changes, arguing the pitch could negatively affect their play, but Europe’s governing body has confirmed that the field meets all regulations. No last-minute adjustments will be made.

The outlet mentions that during their first training session on the Almaty pitch, Real Madrid players were noticeably unhappy with its condition.

Complaints focused on the unusually high grass and its uneven surface, which the team will have to contend with in a match critical to maintaining their perfect European record.

Grass height within legal limits

The report highlighted previous experiences with tall grass.

“The Whites encountered the tallest grass at the Coliseum last season against Getafe, as Bordalas’s team left it at 27 millimetres. The tallest grass the Whites have ever played on… at least as far as the club can remember.”

Despite their dissatisfaction, UEFA confirmed the pitch is within the legal limit of 30 millimetres. According to the rules, the home team is not required to lower the grass at the visiting team’s request.

This means, apart from the other issues, Real Madrid must adapt quickly if they are to overcome Kairat on a surface that may slow down their usual rhythm and passing style.

Quick turnaround for La Liga

Once the European clash concludes, Real Madrid will take a direct flight back to Spain to begin preparations for La Liga matchday eight.

They face Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabeu this Saturday, meaning little recovery time between fixtures.

Adapting to the Almaty pitch will be a test of both skill and patience for Los Blancos.

While UEFA insists the surface complies with regulations, Real Madrid will need to adjust their tactics quickly to maintain their winning streak in Europe and continue their strong start to the domestic campaign.
