UEFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against Bayern Munich after photographers were injured late on during the Champions League quarter-final second leg against Real Madrid at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday, a tie the hosts won 4-3.

Bayern had won the first leg in Madrid a week earlier, 2-1. In the return, they fell behind three times before turning it round thanks to goals from Luis Diaz and Michael Olise.

After the Colombian’s equaliser, some supporters breached the barriers into a restricted zone between the stand and the advertising boards. Following Olise’s winner, they celebrated with the players, crushing several photographers against the hoardings. Some were injured in the melee.

The case concerns the blocking of public passageways, the throwing of objects, a spectator overflow and the display of an inappropriate message at a sporting event, namely an anti-UEFA banner.

Bayern have contacted the injured photographers and the supporters involved, who apologised for the incident. UEFA’s Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body will handle the matter in due course.
