This means that the automatic suspension for the second leg of the round of 16 remains in place and both players will only have to sit out one match and will then be available again

Kimmich and Olise both picked up their third yellow card of the competition in Bayern’s 6-1 away win over Atalanta Bergamo, meaning they are both automatically suspended for the second leg of the round of 16 tie

Immediately after the match, there was speculation as to whether the cautions could have been deliberately provoked. In such cases, UEFA has the option of initiating disciplinary proceedings retrospectively and imposing additional suspensions

The regular ban for the second leg at the Allianz Arena therefore remains in place. If they progress, the duo would be eligible to play again in the Champions League quarter-final first leg. Bayern would then face Real Madrid or Manchester City. The Whites won the first leg 3-0 on Wednesday
