Aston Villa have emerged as serious suitors for Sevilla’s World Cup standout Rubén Vargas, whose performances have lifted his market value and drawn Premier League attention.

ABC de Sevilla reports that Unai Emery’s side have joined the chase for the Switzerland international for next season. Villa’s priority remains Crysencio Summerville at West Ham United, who have been relegated to England’s second tier, but difficulties in that deal have propelled Vargas as the leading alternative.

Brighton & Hove Albion are also monitoring the winger’s situation in Seville.

At the World Cup he has two goals and one assist, scoring against Bosnia and Canada.

Switzerland then reached the quarter-finals for the first time since 1954 by beating Colombia on penalties after a 0-0 draw, with Vargas converting the decisive kick.
