Chelsea are prepared to lower their £5m asking price for defender Alfie Gilchrist according to journalist Ben Jacobs.

Gilchrist came through the ranks at Chelsea’s Cobham academy, and was handed his debut by Mauricio Pochettino.

The 21-year-old went on to make 17 appearances in all competitions that season, and scored his first goal in a 6-0 win against Everton at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea prepared to lower Alfie Gilchrist asking price

Despite putting in some impressive performances the decision was taken to send Gilchrist to Sheffield United on loan in order to get regular first team football.

The Blades missed out on promotion back to the Premier League, but Gilchrist made 32 appearances in all competitions.

However, given the quality and fierce competition for places it’s going to be very difficult for Gilchrist to get a look in at Chelsea.

Chelsea reportedly value the defender at £5m, and the club are believed to have held talks with Derby County over a move for Gilchrist.

Gilchrist is also attracting interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia, and Jacobs has provided a fresh update on his future.

He took to X.com and said:

“Understand Chelsea are now willing to lower their £5m asking price for Alfie Gilchrist.

“A fee of £1.5m plus add-ons is viewed as acceptable with a sell-on clause likely in any deal.

“Gilchrist expected to leave before the end of the window. Championship and Saudi interest.”

Chelsea making good progress with sales

The Blues are looking to sell a number of players this summer, but are now starting to make real progress in that regard.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Lesley Ugochukwu and Armando Broja have all left the club this week, whilst other departures are advancing.

Chelsea are still looking to find new homes for Raheem Sterling, Ben Chilwell, Axel Disasi, Renato Veiga and Christopher Nkunku, with the expectation all those players leave before the end of the window.
