Promise David has signed a new contract with Union St Gilloise. Despite plenty of interest from outside of Belgium this summer, the Canadian striker has decided to stay with the Belgian champions until 2029. David, who only joined the side from Estonia last summer, has become a fan favourite at the club after his goals were the main reason the side ended a 90 year wait for a top flight championship in Belgium.

The 23-year-old scored 19 goals for the side last season, including two as they beat Gent to lift the trophy on the final day of the season. He had been attracting interest from sides in French football, with Paris FC one of the sides said to have been interested in bringing him across the border. However, by staying with Union, David gets to play Champions League football next season.

For Union, it also shows a potential change in fortunes. Usually the side see’s its key players leave for decent money every summer, before going out to replace them for a fraction of the price. Yet, with their success this past season and the prospect of top level European football, key players may well be more willing to stick around for one more season.
