Norwich City have endured an underwhelming first campaign under Johannes Hoff Thorup.

The Canaries have been unable to sustain a push for a play-off place, having come sixth in the table in the previous campaign under David Wagner.

Stars like Borja Sainz and Josh Sargent have excelled, but the team have struggled for consistent results.

Going into the summer transfer window, the club will be hoping to find solutions that can bridge the gap to the play-off places ahead of next season.

When asked what a dream transfer window would look like, FLW’s Norwich fan pundit Zeke Downes suggested keeping as many of Sargent, Sainz and Marcelino Nunez as possible will be key.

However, he expects at least one will be sold, claiming that money then has to be used to bring in new players to replace the likes of Angus Gunn, Shane Duffy and Jacob Sorensen.

“Dream 2025 transfer window would be to let Gunn go, sell Duffy, let go of Sorensen and [Onel] Hernandez and fringe players like [Tony] Springett,” Downes told Football League World.

“And then, hopefully, keep all of our big names like Sainz and Sargent and Nunez, but I’d imagine one or two of those [will be sold] — I don’t think all three of them would leave.

“Out of all of them, I would like to keep Sargent and Nunez, so if we had to sell one it would be Sainz.

“Then we can use that money to sign other players.”

Claim made on potential Norwich City summer signings

Downes named deals for the likes of Jacob Wright, Callum Doyle and a striker as potentially key to their summer business, as well as bringing back players like Brad Hills.

“I would straight away get Jacob Wright in on a permanent, and then sign another winger, probably two wingers, to replace Sainz and Hernandez,” he continued.

“I’d love to get [Callum] Doyle back, but I don’t think that will happen.

“I think Man City would be asking for too much, so then we’d need another centre-back to replace him and Duffy.

“I would bring in Brad Hills because he’s proven that he’s worth giving an opportunity to, and then we’ve got Hills, [Jose] Cordoba and [Ruairi] McConville, and if we get one more I think we’ll be okay.

“So, all those, and you would obviously have to replace Gunn and get another keeper, and I would get another striker to back up Sargent, unless [Ante] Crnac is looking like he’s going to be the striker.

“But obviously he is young, and you don’t want to force it until he’s ready, like we did with Sargent, and having him out on the wing first,

“So, I think that’s what I would do.”

A key summer ahead for Norwich

Keeping the likes of Sargent, Sainz and Nunez will prove tricky for Norwich given how well they’ve performed this year.

Holding onto one of Sainz and Sargent would be a massive coup for the club, with Sargent in the better contract position, given he has a deal until 2028.

But if they are sold, then Norwich have to invest that money back into Thorup’s side or else they risk sliding even further down the Championship table.

That makes this a potentially very important summer for the medium-term for the Canaries.
