After Eintracht’s victory in Mönchengladbach, team-mates, club officials and fans all sung the praises of Can Uzun, who was voted as the Mainova Man of the Match.
Can Uzun has long been the name on everybody’s lips – but even more so now after scoring his fifth goal in as many Bundesliga games in 2025/26. In fact, the Turkey international has six goals and four assists in all competitions so far this term, beating his tally of direct goal involvements for the whole of last season (five scored, three assists).
“Can is primarily responsible for his transformation himself,” said Dino Toppmöller of the 19-year-old’s development. “He fits in really well with the group. He’s very open, very eager to learn, keeps his position well and appears in the spaces we tell him to beforehand. That’s how trust grows on both sides. At the moment you can see what he’s capable of – this is what happens when a player with his natural quality has self-confidence and feels the trust of the coaching staff. Having said that, it’s still only Matchday 5. He’s had a blistering start but ultimately it’s about delivering these performance consistently over a full season.”
Board member for sport Markus Krösche: “Can takes responsibility. He wants to see a lot of the ball, he’s become a key figure in our game, and also plays his part without the ball. Like everyone else, he did really well in the first 65 minutes.”
Approximately 44 percent of fans agreed with that assessment, voting Uzun as the Mainova Man of the Match in the mainaqila app.
