Valencia await assessment of Diego López’s right knee injury

Valencia’s failure to reach Europe was compounded by Diego López’s right knee injury against Barcelona at Mestalla, with further tests due in the coming hours. Early signs were not encouraging.

He felt pain in his right knee after an innocuous incident during the last league match at Mestalla and will undergo medical tests shortly.

Carlos Corberán said it was a knee issue rather than muscular and hoped it would be as minor as possible. He spoke of uncertainty and empathy for a team-mate facing an uncomfortable situation.

López received support from Valencia colleagues and from Barcelona players as he made his way towards the dressing room and after the final whistle.

Valencia will exercise caution and will not discuss the severity until those new tests are complete.
