Blackburn Rovers boss Valerien Ismael has confirmed that Tyrhys Dolan has no interest in returning to Ewood Park.
Blackburn Rovers boss Valerien Ismael has spoken out regarding outbound winger Tyrhys Dolan, who is now a free agent after not signing a new contract to keep him at Ewood Park this summer.
Dolan's future had been under scrutiny for a while after the end of the season, with the question on many Rovers supporters' lips being whether the wide-man would pen a new contract to stay at the club.
Contract expiration day rolled around on June 30th, with no news regarding the 23-year-old signing a new deal, and reports have since emerged that the former Preston academy player has options overseas, as well as in the Championship.
Blackburn chief Ismael has now spoken out regarding Dolan's move elsewhere, revealing in an interview with The Lancashire Telegraph that the attacker won't be returning to Ewood Park this summer.
It's been two weeks since Dolan officially became a free agent, and supporters of the Lancashire club may have had a slither of hope that he may return with no move looking imminent, but Ismael has confirmed that won't be the case.
As mentioned, the 23-year-old reportedly has offers on the table from clubs overseas, and also remains of interest to multiple Championship clubs, one of which was suggested to be Bristol City.
Now, for the first time since returning for pre-season, manager Ismael has spoken out about the situation with Dolan, revealing that representatives of the player had communicated his desire to move on.
The 49-year-old was asked by The Lancashire Telegraph whether Dolan could return to the club this summer, as he remains unattached. Ismael responded: "No, he's made it clear [that he won't return].
"At least his agent, made it clear that he's going somewhere else. But at the moment, I don't think that he's going anywhere [he doesn't have another club yet]."
The Blue and Whites now must resign to the fact that their star player, who has spent the last five years with the club, certainly won't be returning to Lancashire this summer, following Ismael's confirmation.
Whilst many Blackburn supporters would be disappointed to see him adorn another Championship club's colours next season, it could well be the best thing for the club financially, as they would be due a compensation fee, thanks to his age.
A move overseas by Dolan would mean that Rovers would reportedly get just a fraction of the fee that they would if another English club signed their former star, as a settlement fee would have to be agreed between the two parties, or be decided by a tribunal.
With that in mind, Blackburn will be left feeling rather shortchanged if Dolan takes an opportunity abroad, but a small crumb of comfort would be that they don't have to face him next season. But, they may rather receive a larger fee for the winger, and have the possibility of playing against him next term.
