Van Oevelen ‘to join’ Ipswich Town as Valencia hunt new goalkeeper | OneFootball

Valencia must resume their search for a back-up goalkeeper after missing out on Kayne van Oevelen, who is set to join Ipswich Town in the Premier League, according to De Telegraaf. He is due for tests on Sunday and is expected to link up with pre-season in La Manga on Monday.

Valencia had agreed a five-year deal with the 22-year-old to 2031, but talks with FC Volendam stalled over the fee.

The club had capped spending for the position at a little over 2 million euros, while Ipswich are closing on far higher terms, with figures cited from 4 million plus a sell-on to 5 million pounds, 5.8 million euros. Stole Dimitrievski remains the clear first-choice.

The Volendam sale would be the club’s largest guaranteed income from a player, surpassing the fixed amount received for Micky van de Ven, which later rose through add-ons.

Valencia will keep scanning the market for a goalkeeper, though immediate priority sits at right-back after Thomas Meunier, once expected to sign, chose Sunderland as a free agent.

Van Oevelen also attracted interest from Twente and Feyenoord, but the prospect of the Premier League proved decisive. He had urged Volendam to prioritise talks with Valencia, before accepting Mestalla would not reach the asking price.

Ipswich could also add compatriot Kjell Scherpen from Union Saint-Gilloise, a deal that could exceed 10 million euros.
