Vasco paid tribute to club icon Roberto Dinamite before kick-off against São Paulo at São Januário on Saturday.
According to Globo.com, the homage featured fan flags, cardboard shirts referencing his number 10, and on-pitch gifts presented to Roberto’s family.
His son Rodrigo was among those recognised. Near Roberto’s statue, the family received his number 10 shirt from Felipe, Vasco’s technical director.
Dinamite would have turned 72 on Monday, so the club invited relatives to attend and take part in special activities. The ground was draped with his image and slogan, with personalised cups on sale and coordinated posts across the club’s channels.
Carlos Roberto de Oliveira was born on 13 April 1954 in Duque de Caxias, Rio de Janeiro. At 17, on 25 November 1971 at the Maracanã, he scored his first Vasco goal in a 2-0 win over Internacional, a moment that earned him the Dinamite nickname.
That strike was the first of 708 goals in 1,110 matches for Vasco, and the first of 190 in the Campeonato Brasileiro, a record that still stands. He lifted the Brasileiro in 1974 and five Carioca titles in 1977, 1982, 1987, 1988 and 1992.
