Vasco ‘monitoring’ Danilo Barbosa, São Januário graduate and Palmeiras, Botafogo title-winner | OneFootball

According to Colina 1927, Vasco have asked for information on Danilo Barbosa, a São Januário graduate now at Al-Ula, as the club seek experienced defensive solutions.

A defensive midfielder by trade, he has built most of his career in Brazil and Europe in that role. In Saudi Arabia last season he played mainly as a centre-back, starting regularly and viewed as a key piece.

This was not a stop-gap. He was trained and selected as a centre-back across the campaign, and at 1.83m he offsets a lack of towering size with reading of the game, clean build-up and versatility.

His time in the Saudi second tier does not mark him as a Série B-level player. Al-Ula are heavily backed, assembled a promotion push, fell short, and Danilo remained an important contributor.

Raised at Vasco, he later featured for Palmeiras and Botafogo, winning trophies with both clubs.

That background matches the profile the hierarchy want, experience under pressure and readiness to slot in without a long bedding-in period. He can cover the back line and shielding midfield.

He has not reported back to Al-Ula and is considering options, which opens a window. Talks are at an information-gathering stage, with Vasco among the main interested parties.
