According to Globo.com, Vasco will not wait much longer for Artur Jorge and will intensify talks with Renato Gaúcho, the favourite to take charge, one week after sacking Fernando Diniz.
Last Monday club executives called the manager’s representative to discuss salary and his willingness to join, and he gave the green light for talks to progress.
He has been kept waiting while the board pursued Artur Jorge. They believe the Al-Rayyan manager is under pressure, although he has expressed a desire to stay in Qatar.
Marcelo Gallardo was also sounded out but said he was not interested in taking another side immediately after leaving River, where he is an idol, having bid farewell last Thursday.
The board now plan to resume negotiations with Renato Gaúcho in the coming hours.
Vasco approached him at the end of 2024 after Rafael Paiva’s dismissal, but he declined Pedrinho’s invitation and Fábio Carille was appointed at the start of 2025.
Renato Gaúcho, aged 63, previously had two spells at Vasco, first from 2005 to 2007, then in 2008.
