Vasco’s foreign players are braced for potential call-ups in the final FIFA window before the World Cup, with Andrés Gómez and Puma Rodríguez expected to be selected. According to Globo.com, up to six from the squad could be named this week.
With Paulo Henrique missing the most recent national-team friendlies, hopes of a World Cup berth remain alive for several team-mates.
The strongest prospects are with Colombia. Andrés Gómez, Johan Rojas, Carlos Cuesta and Marino Hinestroza are on Néstor Lorenzo’s preliminary list, with the final squad for games against France and Croatia due at the end of the week.
Of that quartet, Gómez is seen as the likeliest inclusion after an impressive season with Vasco. He was called in the last FIFA window but did not play.
Cuesta also made the previous squad, though he has since missed matches for the Rio club with pain in his right knee. Marino and Rojas are considered outsiders.
For Uruguay, right-back Puma Rodríguez could be called for friendlies with England and Algeria. The number two was included in the last window but stayed on the bench against the United States.
A regular in Marcelo Bielsa’s lists, the defender awaits news of another call-up, with the 70-year-old coach set to announce his players in the coming days.
Alan Saldivia is also on the radar, but without a senior call in this cycle he remains an outsider. He represented Uruguay at the Pan American Games in 2024 yet has not featured for the senior side.
