Stuttgart missed their chance to climb into the top eight of the Europa League last week, as Sebastian Hoeneß's side fell to a 2-0 away defeat against Roma.

Die Schwaben go into the final matchday of the league phase sitting 13th, two points away from Real Betis in eighth. While an automatic pathway to the round of 16 is possible, VfB will have to rely heavily on results elsewhere.

Deniz Undav and Ermedin Demirovic missed multiple big chances in the Eternal City, though the xG of 1.65 racked up by Stuttgart was not enough to take anything on their travel - something that has been a common theme away from home in Europe this season, with losses against Fenerbahce and Basel also put on the board.

They would respond at the weekend, however, with VfB securing a 3-0 win away at Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Speaking at today's press conference on Mercedesstraße, Hoeneß confirmed that Ramon Hendriks has trained and should be available for Thursday's clash after breaking his nose at Borussia-Park on Sunday.

Luca Jaquez will also be part of the squad after missing multiple weeks since the winter break, while Bilal El Khannouss is available again following his European suspension.

Dan-Axel Zagadou, Tiago Tomas and Lazar Jovanovic will all remain on the sidelines, despite their respective returns to training.

Young Boys make the relatively short trip to Swabia, having lost all of their last five in all competitions. They sit sixth in the Swiss Super League after a 4-1 defeat against Thun on Sunday, though their Europa League chances remain in their own hands.

Ex-Gladbach coach returned to the club in October after a dismal start to the campaign, and the one European win under him against Lille has left them with a chance of securing a play-off spot. Though a win against Stuttgart is imperative, with just a place between themselves and elimination.

They will be without midfielder Rayan Raveloson, who is suspended following a booking against Lyon last week. He is sidelined alongside Ryan Andrews, Ebrima Colley, Jaouen Hadjam and Facinet Conte, who are all out through injury.

VfB Stuttgart predicted lineup - 4-2-3-1: Nübel - Vagnoman, Jeltsch, Chabot, Mittelstädt - Karazor, Stiller - Leweling, El Khannouss, Führich - Undav

Young Boys predicted lineup - 4-4-1-1: Keller - Janko, Wüthrich, Benito, Mambwa - Lauper, Fernandes - Fassnacht, Sanches, Monteiro - Bedia
