Given both sides are looking ahead to the international break and are both shorn of most of their most effective attackers, we predicted ahead of kick off that this game could be a rather dull affair, with both teams happy to walk away with a draw.

Well, what we had forgotten was that Marc Cucurella and Robert Sanchez were on hand to keep things interesting. They can always be counted on, for better or worse, to add some entertainment value.

In this case it was Cucurella getting outmuscled, then handballing in his own box. He got away with it, and only a superb intervention from Wesley Fofana stopped the Blues conceding after the ball was squared directly across their box.

Sanchez back to his nervy worst as Arsenal take the lead

Gabriel Martinelli has a shot after a mistake from Robert Sanchez, who kicked the ball directly to him.

Sanchez’s stop from the follow up to Fofana’s block was decent, but had a very flappy look to it, and followed shortly after he gave the ball away in his typical fashion with a miskick that went straight to Gabriel Martinelli.

He’s only just been restored to the team after being dropped – but clearly that break has done him no good. He still spreads nerves through the defence, and is only in the team because his understudy Filip Jorgensen is just as dodgy.

UPDATE: Arsenal now lead after conceding a goal from a set piece which Sanchez conceded unnecessarily.

The pain just never ends. And with so little attacking firepower on the pitch, we really don’t see how we get back into this one barring a miracle.
