Alvaro Morata has said goodbye to his Atletico Madrid teammates and confirmed he is going to sign for Milan. ‘I have to pass the medical, but yes.’

The Rossoneri decided to activate the €13m release clause in his contract and he is expected to undergo the tests in Madrid on Wednesday, July 17.

Following the celebrations for the victory at EURO 2024, where Morata was the Spain captain and held the trophy up into the sky in Berlin after beating England 2-1, the forward visited the training ground in Madrid to empty his locker.

On the way out of the training ground, he stopped in his car to speak with reporters from Diario AS and confessed he was going to join Milan.

“I still have to pass the medical, but yes.”

He also talked to Cadena Cope at the training ground.

“I said goodbye to my teammates. It was important for me to thank them for everything, as they always helped me. I also thanked the manager, Miguel Angel Gil, Carlos Bucero, Andrea Berta…

“There were many moments when I did not have a good time. When you are in a place where, for various reasons, you cannot give 100 per cent, this option is better for everyone. I don’t want to lie.

“For me, winning a title with the Atleti shirt is like lifting the European Cup. I wore the Atletico Madrid logo on my shinpads throughout that tournament.”

This is a return to Serie A for the centre-forward, who turns 32 in October, as he already had stints at Juventus from 2014 to 2016, then again from 2020 to 2022.

His contract with Atletico Madrid is due to run until June 2026 and he was also linked with Al-Qadsiah FC.
