Villarreal beat Valencia 2-1 in a display marked by resilience at the back and timely contributions in attack.
As reported by AS, Pape Gueye supplied the cross for the opener and won the penalty that proved decisive before going off injured. Comesaña scored a clever goal and is easing his way back after time out.
Luiz Júnior’s one on one with Danjuma defined his night, he was assured when called upon to save, though high balls still raise doubts. Mouriño rediscovered early-season levels, solid, secure and hard to beat.
Pau Navarro erred for the penalty incident but was otherwise calm and reliable. Veiga cleared decisively and looked more composed. Cardona appeared refreshed, focused and willing to support attacks.
Pepe was among the standouts and kept seeking openings, a head knock briefly left him dazed, luck was not with him. Moleiro worked tirelessly with intent but lacked a decisive touch. Ayoze struggled to hurt between the lines and needs to kick on.
Mikautadze battled without service, produced a good first half effort and two second half runs, he needs greater supply.
From Marcelino’s bench, Thomas Partey offered calm, sensible minutes. Buchanan grafted defensively with limited impact going forward. Pedraza had little presence, and Alfon made his debut.
