Villarreal begin Como camp after PSV win as Freeman and Renato Veiga join | OneFootball

Villarreal have arrived in Como to start the Italian leg of their 2026/27 pre-season after a first summer win, 1-3 at PSV. They are due to stay at least until Saturday 1 August.

According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, the team travelled via Milan and will work in Como, also the venue for the Como Cup.

Alex Freeman of the United States and Portugal’s Renato Veiga have joined up after the World Cup, completing Iñigo Pérez’s group of World Cup players. Pape Gueye, Nicolas Pépé, Tajon Buchanan and Tani Oluwaseyi had already linked up on Friday, though none featured in Eindhoven.

Logan Costa returned to training last week and got minutes against PSV, replacing Willy Kambwala. Staff will now build workloads for the late arrivals and assess whether they can feature in Italy.

Villarreal open the Como Cup on Wednesday 29 July at the Estadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia, playing two 45-minute games barely three hours apart. They face AlUla SC at 19.00, then Como 1907 at 22.00.

The Italian stage follows a 0-2 defeat to Benfica in Faro on 17 July and a convincing victory in Eindhoven, Pérez’s first in charge. With the full squad assembled, the Submarino aim to sharpen match rhythm, consolidate patterns of play and prepare for a season back in the Champions League.
