A year on from Jorge Costa’s death, a memorial Mass will be held at 19:00 at the Igreja de Cristo Rei in Porto.

According to O Jogo, Costa died suddenly at Olival, a loss that shook the club, the city and the country. He passed while working for the institution he loved, still pushing standards and shaping the future.

The training centre at Olival now bears his name, a daily presence and a benchmark for everyone who walks through its doors. It underlines values he embodied, work, courage, character and absolute commitment.

His career was decorated and defining. He made 383 appearances for Porto, scored 25 goals and won 21 trophies, including eight league titles, five Portuguese Cups, five Super Cups, the UEFA Cup, the Champions League and the Intercontinental Cup.

On returning in 2024, he did not seek a ceremonial role, he came to work, decide and demand. Porto’s 31st league title carries his input and influence, with foundations he helped lay and a spiritual drive that endured after his passing.

In the hardest moments, the message he embodied was clear, heads up, close ranks, fight and never give in. When Porto were champions again, his flag dropped onto the Dragão turf, as if he were there to celebrate with them.

For the Portista nation, today is remembrance and gratitude, acknowledging a legacy that endures at Olival, at the Dragão and in every supporter who sees in him the purest expression of the club’s values.
