Vitão outlines how Flamengo can overcome absences against Coritiba | OneFootball

Flamengo face Coritiba on Saturday, seeking a response to last weekend’s defeat and coping with 10 absences.

"It is another important game in our league run. We are coming off a defeat, so it is important to respond in the next match. Even with the absences, Flamengo have a very strong squad, with high quality players," said Vitão, speaking to Lance!.

"We have many options for moments like this. Coritiba are strong and having a great league campaign, but we go to the Maracanã on Saturday in search of the three points and to move closer to the lead, which is our objective," he added.

Leonardo Jardim has 10 absences confirmed, including Jorginho, who is recovering from a fractured right big toe. Several others are with their national teams at the World Cup, among them Danilo, Alex Sandro, Léo Pereira, Paquetá, Arrascaeta, De La Cruz, Varela and Carrascal.

Flamengo have slipped from the Brasileirão lead after losing to Palmeiras last Saturday. They sit second on 31 points, seven behind the São Paulo side. Coritiba are sixth on 26.

The match is the 18th round of the league and kicks off at 16:00 Brasília time at the Maracanã in Rio de Janeiro. Vitão is available.
