Gastón Liendo will take charge on the touchline for Santos in Sunday’s clássico against Corinthians at Vila Belmiro, kick-off 16:00, in the sixth round of the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A.

According to Diario Do Peixe, head coach Juan Pablo Vojvoda is suspended after being sent off following the 2-2 draw with Mirassol in the fifth round. The dismissal came after the final whistle during a dispute with Mirassol boss Rafael Guanaes, and both received the same punishment.

Liendo will guide Santos during the derby, his first time leading from the technical area since the current staff arrived, as this is Vojvoda’s first suspension at the club.

Born in Rosario, Argentina, on 29 May 1974, Gastón Ricardo Liendo was a midfielder who featured for several clubs, most notably Newell’s Old Boys, where he played more than 100 matches and scored 10 goals. He also represented Belgrano, San Martín de San Juan and Atlético de Rafaela.

After retiring, he spent six years coaching in Newell’s academy between 2008 and 2014, the period in which he began working closely with Vojvoda.

Their partnership was consolidated from 2014 at senior level, with joint spells at Newell’s Old Boys, Defensa y Justicia, Talleres, Huracán and Unión La Calera of Chile.

From May 2021 at Fortaleza, the duo oversaw 310 matches and won five trophies, including three Campeonatos Cearenses and two editions of the Copa do Nordeste.

In August 2025, Liendo followed Vojvoda to Santos, and both are under contract until the end of 2026.
