Juan Pablo Vojvoda convened a meeting with Santos players and staff before Wednesday’s clássico against São Paulo at Vila Belmiro, the second round of the Brasileirão at 20:00. He used it to stress he would not walk away amid a winless run.
In the event of defeat, the board are weighing a dismissal, according to Diario Do Peixe. Vojvoda said he would not ask to leave and praised the squad, expressing belief in his players and in his work.
The Argentine underlined that everyone is together and that, whatever happens, players and staff must fight to pull the club out of this situation.
He spoke of a different approach for the match. Santos won their Paulistão opener then failed to win again, a run of six without a victory. In the state competition they drew with Guarani, Corinthians and Red Bull Bragantino, and lost to Palmeiras and São Paulo, while their Brasileirão debut brought a heavy defeat to Chapecoense.
Appointed in August last year, Vojvoda has taken charge of 25 matches, 18 last year in the league and seven this season, six in the Paulistão and one in the Brasileirão. His record stands at seven wins, 11 draws and seven defeats, with 31 goals for and 29 against.
