Wales’ hopes of reaching Euro 2025 are hanging by a thread after a 4–1 defeat to France in St Gallen.
Clara Matéo opened the scoring early on, volleying in after a flurry of French corners, but Wales hit back quickly. Jess Fishlock tucked home from close range following Ceri Holland’s well-timed run and cross - the goal eventually given after a VAR check overturned the initial offside flag.
Rhian Wilkinson’s side looked up for it in an impressive first half, but they were undone just before the break when Holland conceded a penalty, allowing Kadidiatou Diani to restore France’s lead.
A second-half error from goalkeeper Safia Middleton-Patel gifted France a third, as Mateo dispossessed her and set up Amel Majri to finish neatly. Grace Geyoro added a fourth just after the hour mark to seal the result.
Wales now need a miracle: a four-goal win over England and help from France, who only need a point against the Netherlands to top the group.
