Footage of the developments which led to Atlético Madrid head coach Diego Simeone being shown a red card during the club’s latest outing has come to the fore online.

Atlético were of course back in action on Wednesday night.

In their European season opener, the Rojiblancos made the daunting trip to Anfield, for a Champions League showdown with Liverpool.

And after falling into an early two-goal hole, Atléti appeared to have clawed their way back to a point as proceedings headed into injury-time.

That was until Virgil van Dijk popped up with a trademark header to win it at the death for Liverpool.

Already fired up owing to a string of back-and-forths with the home crowd, the winner tipped Diego Simeone over the edge, as he and the visitors’ staff exploded in the direction of one particular section of fans.

The Argentine is expected to receive a touchline ban for his actions, with footage of the incident showcased from different angles below:
