It was the most interesting tie of the FA Cup fifth round in prospect – “Hollywood” Wrexham and their flashy owners against Premier League Chelsea. And it delivered, in terms of excitement.

Wayne Rooney was working on the game as a pundit, and he was delighted by what he saw:

“I think it’s the most I’ve enjoyed a game of football since I stopped playing. Really enjoyed it. Just the atmosphere. We had to walk through the fans quite a bit to get pitch-side and stuff, and the fans were great,” former England great Rooney said on his show on the BBC.

“But, just the atmosphere for the game, I thought it was a really good game. Wrexham were excellent, unfortunate not to go through and, yeah, really enjoyed it.”

We enjoyed it too – the home crowd were really up for it, they played really well and pushed Chelsea to the limit. There were plenty of goals and exciting moments from both teams. It was really just a shame that a Wrexham player lost their head and picked up a red card, which seriously hurt his team’s chances of winning.

In other news…

Chelsea have been linked with transfer interest in Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs, who is having a great season.

Another bottom-half of the Premier League player being targeted by Chelsea is El Hadji Malick Diouf, the West Ham full back we’re also being linked with at the moment.
