Manchester City skipper Bernardo Silva believes his teammates have it in them to pull off an incredible remontada against Real Madrid on Tuesday night.

The Blues are bidding for a miracle in the return leg of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie at the Etihad Stadium to keep their quest for an unprecedented quadruple alive.

City’s hopes of a fifth Premier League title in six seasons took a drastic hit at the weekend as they were held to a 1-1 draw by West Ham to allow Arsenal to race nine points clear at the top of the table.

Pep Guardiola’s side have won once in their last four games in all competitions but club captain Bernardo Silva believes that Manchester City can pull off the improbable and overturn a three goal deficit against Real Madrid in their European second leg this week.

Rodri: Real Madrid will suffer against Manchester City if they want to progress

Bernardo Silva: A lot of things can happen at the Etihad Stadium

In a candid reflection on the height of task at Manchester City’s disposal at the Etihad Stadium, Silva made his feelings clear on the disappointment over last week’s drubbing at the Santiago Bernabeu.

“Even though the result in Madrid was really bad, we will fight,” the 31-year-old said in a press conference on Monday. “We will fight until the end, knowing that it is going to be tough, the opponent is a good one.

“At home, a lot of things can happen, especially here at the Etihad (Stadium). And we’re going to try to create the right atmosphere for that to happen.

“We know what this team is capable of. The problem that we’ve lacked this season is the consistency, we weren’t able to maintain the level for the right amount of games. If we are on it tomorrow, we know that it’s possible.”

The first leg result was much worse than the performance, says Bernardo Silva

Silva went on to admit that in hindsight, City played much better than the opening leg result in the Spanish capital showed as they travelled back home with nothing to show for a valiant attacking effort in the opening 30 minutes in Madrid.

“When I watched back (the first leg against Real Madrid), I don’t see a reason for us to be losing 3-0 at half-time,” Silva added. “And the result was much worse than the performance, in my opinion.

“We have to believe tomorrow that when Erling Haaland has a chance, he will score and the ball will not hit the post or the bar. And when they (Real Madrid) have the chance, we have to believe that our defenders will block and our keeper will save. Tomorrow has to be our day.

“In the league, the best team wins 95% of the time. In the UEFA Champions League, the best team not necessarily wins. It’s a competition about emotions, dealing with emotions, little details mainly in the boxes. That’s not luck. I believe we need to do really well in those details.”

Why Pep Guardiola has cancelled Manchester City training ahead of Real Madrid return leg

Guardiola has stated that Manchester City need a ‘perfect’ performance in the second leg to progress to the quarter-final and though the Blues have a mountain to climb, stranger things have happened in football and City will not be foolish enough to lose hope just yet.
