The Gunners have taken maximum points from their opening two Barclays Women’s Super League games this term with Manchester United up next.
This weekend’s trip to Leigh Sports Village looks to be an important moment for Arsenal but head coach Slegers says that The Gunners don’t view specific games in isolation; they want to be consistent in every single game.
“It’s still very early in the season, but we focus on ourselves and what we’ve said is that we want to do things with consistency and that was our learning from last season,” Slegers said when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “Wherever we are in the season and whoever the opposition, we want to bring our best game.”
Going on to discuss the threat of Manchester United, Slegers sees a side that will be feeling positive off the back of their UEFA Women’s Champions League victory over SK Brann in midweek, however, she insists that Arsenal’s focus is on themselves.
She said “They of course had to come back from 1-0 down against Brann and then they came back to England, won against London City Lionesses and they turned it around yesterday. I guess they are positive, there are positive vibes, but that’s them, that’s their camp. I don’t know exactly what’s going on there.
“For us, it’s focusing on ourselves and trying to prepare as well as possible with all of the detail and all of the things we think we can expect on Sunday. We control as many things as possible.”
Arsenal have had many tough battles with Manchester United at Leigh Sports Village. The Gunners face a real challenge again but Slegers is looking forward to the occasion.
She said “It will be a new game, but of course, we carry the experience of having played there. There are players in our squad who have played there many more times than me.
“I’m happy I’ve been there because it’s a setting with a big crowd, they will be loud, but we know that we have our fans travelling as well, I think we have 1,000 fans travelling. We will feed off of them as well and they will bring our energy.”
Arsenal’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Manchester United kicks-off at 2.50pm on Sunday afternoon.
