Mainz 05 have confirmed that Nelson Weiper has signed a new long-term contract, keeping him at the club until 2029.
The extension comes after earlier reports suggested the 20-year-old had initially turned down a new deal.
“For me, Mainz 05 is the right step for the future. I feel very comfortable here; both sportingly and personally, it’s a perfect fit,” said Weiper.
“The club and the coach trust me, and I want to repay that trust on the pitch. I am a native of Mainz, I love this city and this club, and I’m very happy to continue playing in front of my family, friends, and the incredible fans at the Mewa Arena.”
Mainz 05 sporting director Christian Heidel added:
“Nelson is not only an outstanding talent with undeniable sporting qualities but above all a true Mainz player. He was born here and is fully committed to the club. Nelson identifies with the club, the city, and his home. We are very pleased that he has now committed to Mainz 05 for another four years, where he started playing football 13 years ago.”
