‘We’ll be able to sign players we need’ – Barcelona president provides promising financial update ahead of crucial summer | OneFootball

There was a festive atmosphere in Castelldefels as Barcelona officially closed the curtain on another memorable campaign. 

Following a season that ended with Hansi Flick’s side securing a second straight La Liga title, players, staff, and club executives gathered together to celebrate the success achieved over the past year.

Among the most visible figures during the evening was club president Joan Laporta, who stopped to speak with the media and reflected on the campaign, the current squad, and the challenges waiting ahead for Barcelona.

The Barça president looked satisfied with the direction of the club and praised the unity that exists inside the dressing room after another successful domestic season.

“These are wonderful moments to look back on the season. Two league titles in a row – it’s a good squad with a long way to go. 

“You know there’s a real bond; it’s a very balanced group,” said Laporta.

The Barcelona president made it clear that there is growing confidence inside the club regarding the future of the sporting project.

“Deco is doing a wonderful job and Flick is really excited about what’s to come,” he explained.

Despite the celebrations, Laporta also warned that maintaining this level next season will not be simple. 

According to the president, expectations around the squad are already increasing.

“The season will be much tougher than this one. The standards will be raised. The players are aware that they are building their own legend.”

More on transfer and financial situation

As expected, Laporta was also questioned about the summer transfer market and possible targets such as Julian Alvarez. However, he avoided entering into specifics and instead directed those questions towards Deco.

“You’ll have to speak to Deco about Julian,” he said.

Still, the Barça chief appeared optimistic regarding the club’s financial situation and their ability to improve the squad during the transfer window.

“We’ll be able to sign the players we think we need to sign to be more competitive.”

On Lewandowski

Laporta also made sure to pay tribute to Robert Lewandowski, who will leave the club at the end of the season.

“Lewandowski is now part of the Barça crest. We will always be grateful to him. 

“Thanks to him, we gained credibility on the pitch and also in terms of what we could achieve financially,” explained the president.

Lastly, the Barça chief reflected on the difficult moment in which the striker arrived at the club.

“He arrived at a very difficult time. He has contributed a great deal to the squad and we will always be grateful,” he added.
