Noni Madueke insists it’s “not all doom and gloom” for England after they could only manage one goal in their Fifa World Cup qualifier win over minnows Andorra on Saturday.
The Chelsea winger was the national team’s best performer as he provided the assist for Harry Kane’s 50th-minute winner at the RCDE Stadium.
Madueke created four chances and took three shots while also completing three dribbles, more than any other player on the pitch.
The Three Lions were expected to mete out a heavy beating to Andorra, the lowest seeds in Group K, but the 23-year-old pointed out that the side maintained their 100 percent record since Thomas Tuchel took over as head coach.
“We haven’t lost yet, we haven’t conceded yet. Grounds for optimism,” Madueke told BBC Radio 5 Live after the full-time whistle.
“Today wasn’t as everyone would have hoped in terms of the scoreline, but we won the game.
“My job is to create and score goals. I was able to create one today so I’m pleased.”
He added: “We’re not stupid, we know the scoreline isn’t the one we wanted to have. I thought there were good parts of the performance. It’s not all doom and gloom. There are positives to take.
Madueke believes that Tuchel provides just what England needs to be successful ahead of next summer’s World Cup in North America.
“He is very intense, very clear with what he wants. He has high standards. He doesn’t allow anyone to drop under them. That’s the kind of coach that will benefit England.”
