FLW’s West Brom fan pundit has commented on interested in Falkirk forward Barney Stewart.

West Brom will be in the process of making plans for the 2026-27 campaign after securing their second tier status under James Morrison.

A goalless draw against promotion-chasing Ipswich Town was enough to get the Black Country outfit over the line in their quest for survival, despite the EFL's decision to deduct the Baggies two points for breaching P&S rules.

The Baggies legend has since been made the permanent head coach at The Hawthorns, penning a two-year contract and hopeful of getting the club back towards the top end of the Championship table next season.

Now, with the regular campaign all over, the Baggies may well be in for a rebuilding process, particularly in the forward department, with a host of first-team figures set to depart The Hawthorns at the end of their current deals.

Because of that, it’s no surprise to see the Baggies working on incomings for the number nine position, with a report by the Daily Record claiming that West Brom have had a bid rejected for Falkirk’s Barney Stewart.

It’s believed an offer worth seven figures was lodged by the Black Country outfit but deemed to be well short of the Scottish side’s valuation.

Stewart has enjoyed a strong campaign after returning to Falkirk in January from his loan spell at Dunfermline, contributing 10 goals and two assists from 21 appearances in all competitions.

There's no shortage of interest in the forward either, with Scottish giants Celtic having also been linked with a move ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.

With this in mind, FLW’s West Brom fan pundit has commented on whether he would welcome a move for the talented 22-year-old this summer.

Speaking to Football League World, West Brom fan pundit Callum Burgess believes Barney Stewart is the right type of player profile that the Baggies should be targeting, with Albion having a strong chance of making a healthy profit on such a talented marksman, should they get a deal over the line.

Callum told FLW: “It’s no surprise to see Albion in the market for a striker.

“We’ve got Dike, Maja and Grant probably all leaving on free transfers, and it seems that Stewart has had a very good breakout campaign for Falkirk so far, after spending the first half of the season on loan at Dunfermline Athletic.

“I think he’s definitely the mould of a player that Albion should be looking to bring in. Young players who have the potential to develop, while Albion try to get higher in the Championship table. Of course, we can’t get any lower.

“When you look at the signings we’ve made in recent years, you look at Heggem, signed him for cheap and sold him for big, so I think Stewart could fit the mould of that type of player.”

Barney Stewart signing can be the beginning of West Brom's revival

After a bitterly disappointing Championship campaign, West Brom will see this as the perfect opportunity to overhaul some of the playing squad, with the forward line the particular area to target.

The likes of Daryl Dike, Josh Maja and Karlan Grant are all expected to head for the exit door, so the Baggies will have to replace the loss of firepower at the top end of the pitch.

And adding someone like Barney Stewart to the mix could end up being so rewarding, with the frontman excelling in the Scottish top-flight immediately and showing real promise that he can go places in his career.

Meanwhile, there’s no reason why Stewart can't transition his goalscoring success into the Championship, with Mikey Johnston proving his worth at The Hawthorns after originally linking up on loan from Celtic, before making his move to The Hawthorns permanent.

Standing at 6ft 3in, Stewart would also be the target man the Baggies have craved for, with Albion needing a big and powerful striker in the box that can profit off dangerous whipped deliveries from wide areas.

It seems a gamble worth taking for Albion, who, provided a deal gets over the line, would be making a strong start to the summer transfer window with this acquisition.
