In a club statement, West Bromwich Albion said they consider they have fully complied with the EFL’s Profitability and Sustainability rules, will continue to co-operate with the league’s Club Financial Reporting Unit, and look forward to resolving the matter. The statement acknowledged media reports, thanked supporters and stressed that on-pitch success over the final four games for James Morrison’s side, to finish above the bottom three, remains the absolute priority, adding that further comment would not be appropriate.
The alleged breach was reported on Monday morning.
If found guilty of the charge, the Baggies could face a points deduction, a fine or a transfer ban.
Albion sit two points above the drop zone with four fixtures left.
Any sanction could yet shape off-field twists in the fight to stay up.
