Manu Duah is reportedly of interest to the newly-relegated Hammers

West Ham United are braced for a major summer rebuild following their relegation from the Premier League to the Championship, with transfer speculation already rife at the London Stadium.

It has been confirmed that Portuguese head coach, Nuno Espírito Santo, will remain in charge of the Hammers for their first season as a second tier outfit in 14 years, but beyond that, it remains uncertain as to what the outlook of his squad will look like heading into the competitive campaign.

It has also been widely reported that West Ham are needing to generate over £100m to help balance their financial books after relegation, although the chances of making such funds have certainly been increased in recent days.

Indeed, the main talking point has been over the future whereabouts of 21-year-old midfielder, Mateus Fernandes, who has been continuously monitored by the Irons' London rivals, Tottenham Hotspur, and Manchester United, whilst a £50m price-tag has reportedly been placed on the head of Crysencio Summerville, who has netted twice for the Netherlands at the FIFA World Cup 2026.

Plenty of names have also been linked with the club when it comes to incomings, with some already offering Championship experience, while others would, almost certainly, fall into the bracket of a 'statement' addition.

However, West Ham are now said to be facing the threat of Ipswich Town when it comes to the potential acquisition of highly-rated defender, Manu Duah.

As per Football Insider, the Tractor Boys, who have now confirmed the appointment of former Hammers midfielder, Gary O'Neil, as head coach following the surprise exit of Kieran McKenna, have, like the East Londoners, been assessing Duah's development for some time and are eyeing a move for the 21-year-old.

Duah currently plays for Major League Soccer outfit, San Diego FC, with his last competitive appearance coming on May 24th in a 3-3 draw with Vancouver Whitecaps ahead of the division's current break for the Stateside World Cup.

The defender had previously featured for UC Santa Barbara, but was selected to join the Californian side in December 2024 as part of the MLS' SuperDraft, and he has since played 39 competitive games, scoring once.

At the time of his selection in the SuperDraft, Duah was described by San Diego head coach, Mikey Varas, as "a player with tremendous potential. A player who's already good but can improve a lot."

The aforementioned report also claims that the Ghanaian has attracted interest from sides in the French Ligue 1, less than a month after receiving his first Black Stars call-up before being denied the chance to do so by his current employers.

This also comes amid speculation that Nuno could lose both Konstantinos Mavrapanos and Jean-Clair Todibo as part of their pre-season squad reset.

The defensive department is clearly an area which Nuno is looking to reshuffle ahead of the upcoming season, especially after the concession of 65 goals in the Premier League last term.

A move for Duah showcases that the Irons are clearly looking to target players who can make an immediate impact, as well as grow with the club in the future if they are to make strides of progress after being relegated.

Even though Ipswich have just been promoted to the top-flight in place of West Ham, it also shows that some believe he could make a smooth transition to the highest level, which would also offer encouragement to those in E20 after recent links to former Brighton centre-back, Adam Webster, who has gone 13 months without competitive action after a serious ACL injury and is now a free agent.
