Tottenham need to take firm steps this summer after a campaign that left a bitter taste in the mouths of their supporters in the Premier League. The board moved quickly to appoint Thomas Frank as Postecoglou’s successor, in a bid to avoid another aimless season. Daniel Levy knows well that a new coach without backing burns out quickly.
Fans, battered by 17th place in the Premier League, are demanding signs of ambition. Making Mathys Tel a permanent signing hardly serves as a gesture. The stand expects names with weight. That is why every rumoured arrival generates a different buzz in North London.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Spurs are preparing another attempt to sign West Ham star Mohammed Kudus. The first offer, around £50 million, fell on deaf ears because the Hammers considered it insufficient. However, the new manager has now given the green light to insist again. For Frank, Kudus would fit in perfectly with his idea of the game and would provide the spark that the team have been missing. In turn, the player would be determined to cross London to wear the Spurs shirt. All signs point to the next round of talks taking place in a matter of days.
Romano said: “What I’m told about Kudus is that Tottenham made the first proposal to West Ham. It was rejected because West Ham didn’t want to accept that value for the player, something around £50m for Mohammed Kudus. But first point, Tottenham are expected to bid again for Kudus, so in the next days, Tottenham want to attack again. Second point, Thomas Frank has approved internally, Mohammed Kudus as a top target for Tottenham this summer, as a crucial target for Tottenham this summer, so they are prepared to advance and push for Kudus and then the player side. Probably the best news for Spurs fans is that my understanding is that Kudus wants to go to Tottenham.”
With Kudus so keen, West Ham have the upper hand. It’s not every day that a neighbouring club comes after your best man. Our view is clear that if Tottenham want a signing that will lift their fans, they will have to dig deep. West Ham should set a price that reflects Kudus’ influence in the XI and what it would cost to replace him. 50 million seems too little. You don’t find a player with a knack for scoring goals, have flair and a hunger in just any market.
The Hammers could ask for between 65 and 70 million without trembling. Kudus knows that at Tottenham, he would have a European showcase and Frank would make him a central player, but West Ham have the right to defend their asset. Levy needs to make a shrewd move. If he pays fairly, the club are reinforced without mortgaging the project. If it falls short, they risk losing a player who does want to come. As much as Spurs won the Europa League against United, the Premier League does not forgive any weakness. Kudus can make a difference, but nothing will come cheap.
