Niclas Fullkrug, 33, is interested in joining Lazio as Gennaro Gattuso searches for a new number nine, but obstacles could slow any move.
The West Ham forward, offered to the Biancocelesti after a loan at AC Milan last term, earns €3.5 million and would have to cut his wage to return. He scored one goal in 20 Serie A appearances. According to Corriere dello Sport, Gattuso is considering a loan-to-buy for Milan’s Santi Gimenez, a deal that might only be assessed in late August if the striker remains with the Rossoneri.
Gattuso faces a sizeable rebuild. Lazio’s defence looks exposed and their attack was blunt, returning 41 goals last season.
Petar Ratkov could depart after a bleak spell on the fringes, despite Lazio paying €13 million to Salzburg for him. A ninth-placed finish last term also limits room to spend in an expensive position.
Lazio are scouring clubs above them for loan-to-buy options, with recent interest in Burnley’s Armando Broja. Relegated with the Clarets and with a grim injury record, he scored once in 24 top-flight games when fit last season.
