Weverton was greeted with a celebration by Grêmio’s squad and staff at CT Luiz Carvalho on Tuesday after his Brazil call-up for a second World Cup, and the club presented him with a bespoke sticker for a tournament album.
According to Globo.com, the goalkeeper was welcomed in the training ground canteen, which was decorated with balloons, supportive posters and Brazil’s colours.
Grêmio’s No 1 said he was honoured to represent his country and the club, hoped to do so in the best possible way, and noted that pursuing a long-awaited sixth title remains their main objective. He thanked Grêmio fans for consistent support since his arrival.
The group added a light-hearted initiation at the start of the session, with the goalkeeper made to run a corredor polonês on the pitch.
Weverton watched the announcement at home with his family, throwing himself onto the living-room floor in celebration. His wife later jumped into the pool despite a 12°C chill.
The 38-year-old was a surprise inclusion in the Italian’s list, having not previously been called by this coach. His last summons came under Dorival Júnior in 2024.
He also went to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar under Tite, replacing Alisson for 10 minutes at the end of the last-16 win over South Korea, which Brazil won 4-1.
