What Cole Palmer has previously said about supporting Man United as Luckhurst confirms he’s ‘open’ to move

Amid growing speculation that Cole Palmer is feeling homesick in London, Samuel Luckhurst has verified that the Chelsea talisman is ‘open’ to a move to Old Trafford.

Indeed, Palmer is said to be ‘unsettled’ living so far away from his home city, having spent the last two-and-a-half years in West London representing the Stamford Bridge outfit.

The Wythenshawe-born midfielder represented Manchester City throughout all of his youth and senior career before making the switch to Chelsea, but he did grow up a Manchester United fan.

He previously divulged his support for the Red Devils in an interview discussing his favourite players, saying: “Obviously, I supported United, and he (Wayne Rooney) was probably the best player when I was watching them.”

“Yeah, when I was growing up, I was a United fan,” Palmer added.

That perhaps explains why, according to Luckhurst, the 23-year-old has no interest in a reunion with his former club if he does indeed return to Manchester at any point in the foreseeable future, and would only consider the 20-time champions in M16.

In his maiden campaign with Chelsea in 2023/2024, Palmer returned a remarkable 22 goals and 11 assists in 33 Premier League appearances.

He followed it up with 15 goals and nine assists in 37 matches last term, and went on to assist twice in the Conference League final before scoring twice and assisting once in the Club World Cup final against reigning European champions Paris Saint-Germain.

It goes without saying that such consistent and scintillating form would make any deal incredibly hard to come by for United – and not least because Chelsea have Palmer tied down to a contract until 2033.

They shelled out only £40 million to sign him from City in the summer of 2023. Now, Transfermarkt value him at £104m.
