What Coman & Co expect from Boca match

The Club World Cup is still in its infancy but Kingsley Coman has already made history. In the 10-0 win over Auckland City last Sunday, the Frenchman opened the scoring in the sixth minute with the first goal of the new tournament. The winger hopes that’s just the start, though. “After the first goal in the competition, maybe I can also make history with the last one in the final,” said Coman laughing.

Of course, Coman and Co still have a long way to go to get there. Next up for Bayern is the second group game against Boca Juniors overnight on Friday – and a significantly better yardstick than the opening match. “Obviously it’s a step up in quality, but we prepare the same way we did for Auckland and against any team we play,” explained Harry Kane. “They’ll try to make it a big fight and use everything they can to put us off our game. We need to be ready for that.”

Concentrate on own game

The Reds can expect to come up against a more physical style of play against the Argentinians. “We know we have to be careful, but at the end of the day it’s always better to go into the tackles with 100 percent,” summarised Coman. Serge Gnabry also acknowledged that they can prepare for the toughness that comes with it. “You don’t have these kinds of games at European level that often, where the opponents are so aggressive,” he said. “But we have to stand up to that and concentrate on our game, then it’ll be a match like any other.”

In any case, Gnabry is looking forward to the meeting with the 35-time Argentinian champions and the atmosphere inside the stadium in Miami. “It’s going to be a very loud match, an awesome match. I’m a big fan of Boca,” he added. It’s also a match in which the Bavarians can gain a lot, as a win would secure their place in the knockout stages. “We can take a big step, that’s what we’re focused on,” underlined Kane.
