After sacking Liam Rosenior after less than four months in charge last week, the Blues are once again looking for another head coach.
Calum McFarlane has been placed in interim charge for the remainder of the season whilst Chelsea’s sporting directors take their time over making an appointment.
There are reportedly seven or eight names under consideration, with Andoni Iraola and Marco Silva believed to be on the list.
Chelsea are said to have reached out to the agent of Xabi Alonso, whilst Cesc Fabregas is a name fans would like to see.
The Blues need to appoint a proven winner and someone who will command the respect of the dressing room, something Rosenior was unable to do.
There’s long been clamour from some fans over a return for Mourinho, and Jacobs has now provided an update on the situation.
“What I can tell you there is that Mourinho is the leading candidate for Real Madrid, at least as far as Florentino Perez is concerned. Chelsea sources have always downplayed the possibility of a return,” he told Give Me Sport.
“And if Mourinho’s not going to go to Real Madrid, then we should also keep an eye on the Portugal national team because Roberto Martinez is expected to depart once the season ends.”
