Although Ruben Amorim’s time at Manchester United has come to an end, it’s unlikely fans will see Marcus Rashford donning the shirt again.
When the news of Amorim’s dismissal was confirmed on Monday, supporters began to speculate whether it could spell a potential return for the former Red when his Barcelona loan expires.

Rashford is spending 2025/2026 with the Spanish giants, after which they will have to decide if they want to activate his buy option of around £26 million or, alternatively, send him back to Old Trafford. Considering they’re navigating an ever-precarious financial situation, it’s not a given that the transfer will be made permanent upon the culmination of the season.
His exit first materialised last winter, when he joined Aston Villa for the remainder of the term before he finally secured his long-term wish of representing the Blaugrana.
Prior to doing so, the Carrington graduate had fallen completely out of favour under Amorim – to the point he was exiled from all first-team action for a month.
Yet, the key decision-makers aren’t planning to have him back in the squad when 2026/2027 gets underway.

Richard Moriarty’s report claims the decision to offload Rashford, as well as the other ‘bomb squad’ members, was not just made by Amorim alone.
INEOS green-lit the players’ departures too, and now have no intention of the loanees resuming their Red Devils careers.
Matheus Cunha has since claimed Rashford’s No.10 shirt, while the side’s frontline has been completely revamped and revitalised in the Englishman’s absence.
Jadon Sancho was also shipped out on loan to Villa, although his contract expires this June, meaning he is poised to bid farewell to United after a lacklustre five years.
